Corporate Sustainability Responsibility
CSR is an interesting subject it discusses about the carbon foot print, social responsibility and sustainability of people and resources in economical, ecological, environmental and social field.
United nations came up with an agenda 21 in 1992 and 178 companies signed it. Sustainability is required in all the domains.
There are many examples of ignorance of resources GANGA RIVER which is polluted to the core in india and Macon river in china etc. In the construction domain we need to combat for deforestation and IT domain we need to take care of energy we are consuming and electronic wastes we are producing and proper disposal of the electronics items.
Some companies donate the expired electronics products to orphanage and NGO... i feel it is not a good thing to do just because companies need to follow CSR, they will dump their expired commodities to some one else in the name of charity..
The scary thing about electronics waste is dumped in developing countries like Uganda, Ghana from developed countries.. There is a controversy again... Some people from Uganda welcome this since they can use the secondhand or expired items .. they can use the left our metals etc and make money.. where as few opposes why does other countries need to dump the waste to their country... Difficult to address this issue.. ..
Always we think that business development wins over the sustainability measures.. but there are many examples .. like CHIPKO MOVEMENT .. TO SAVE THE FOREST by Sundar lal bahuguna in India and it was successful. I agree it is difficult to implement CSR in all the domains.. but lets be ethical and let us take the individual responsibility and from our side try to save the resources like electricity, water, fuel etc and let us dispose the electronic waste in a right way.
